Kelsey is the Chair of the Trail Research Hub and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the School of Outdoor Recreation, Parks and Tourism, at Lakehead University (Thunder Bay, Canada), and in the School of Tourism & Hospitality Management at Royal Roads University (Victoria, Canada). She completed her Doctoral Studies in the Department of Tourism at the University of Otago (Dunedin, New Zealand).
